QANTAS plane forced back after hole appears in shell surrounding the engine

Damage from the Sydney bound flight.
A QANTAS Boeing 747 which departed San Francisco bound for Sydney was forced to turn back when a loud explosion was heard and felt by passengers. The plane was in the air for 45 minutes when there was an explosion in an engine.

The 212 passengers on board the flight felt a strong jolt as the engine failed. The plane arrived back in San Francisco safely and no passengers were injured.

Today's revelation is that the same plane was forced to make an emergency landing in August 2006. The Hong Kong to Melbourne flight was made short when one of the cabin crew notified the flight crew that there was a smell of fuel in the first class cabin.
The pilot was forced to shut down the leaking engine and make an emergency landing in Darwin.
A QANTAS spokesman denied the events were linked.

Have you ever been on a flight when a similar incident/something bad has occurred?

Would you like to share your experiences from a passengers point of view?

Does this change the way you feel about QANTAS? Will you still fly with them?
