Stephanie Rice has suffered a shoulder injury that has forced her to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games.

"Obviously it is a huge disappointment for me," Rice said.

"I would have loved to have been there because it (Commonwealth Games) comes around once every four years."

"I have to think of the bigger picture which is London 2012 (Olympics)."

In other news, Sophie Edington won gold in the women's 50m backstroke at the Pan Pacific Championships in California. Fellow Queenslander Emily Seebohm took her personal medal haul to three with a silver in the women's 100m freestyle final.
