Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy has now conquered the skies above the Grand Canyon.
After cancelling a previous attempt over the canyon, Rossy propelled himself from a helicopter and stayed in the air for more than eight minutes thanks to his jet-powered wings.
His team reported that he flew at speeds of 305 km/h before opening his parachute and landing safely on the ground.
"My first flight in the US is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life, not only for the sheer beauty of the Grand Canyon but the honour to fly in sacred Native American lands," the 51-year-old said.
Rossy can now add this to his list of achievements which include: crossing the English Channel from France to Britain in 2008 and flying over the Alps in the same year.
