Bomb threat grounds Garuda flight

A plane has been grounded at Surabaya airport in Indonesia after authorities were notified of a threat that a bomb would be detonated mid-air on a flight to Jakarta.

The general manager of the Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Trikora Harjo, said Garuda flight 313 had been grounded after a threat was received via fax.

Mr Harjo said three suspicious packages had been located but could not confirm whether they contained explosive materials.

He said three packages containing "liquid and gel" had been located at an X-ray gate about 11am and were then isolated.

The grounded flight was later cleared for take-off after inspections of the plane and baggage found there was no bomb.

Garuda flight 313 was grounded for more than two hours.
