The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder today 121-112 in Dallas. The Mavericks were led by big man Dirk Nowitzki as they drew first blood in the best-of-seven series.

Nowitzki only missed three shots in the game and broke and NBA record for shooting the most free throws in a game without a miss.

Nowitzki, seeking his first NBA title, staged a shooting clinic as well as blocking four shots in a spectacular effort, breaking the perfect playoff free throw mark of 21 set by Boston's Paul Pierce in 2008.

Oklahoma City used six different players to try and stop Nowitzki throughout the game but none of them could stop him.

Showing no sign of problems after a nine-day break since knocking-out the reigning champion, Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavericks won their seventh playoff game in a row by holding off a determined Oklahoma as the game progressed.

NBA superstar Kevin Durant contributed 40 points in his team’s loss.
Jason Terry added 24 points, including a game-sealing 3-pointer in the dying seconds, and J.J. Barea added 21 points for the Mavericks.
