AFL: Collingwood mounts huge comeback to defeat Adelaide

AFL Round 9Collingwood kicked the last 11 goals of the match to notch a come-from-behind 43-point win at Etihad Stadium.

Collingwood was down by 30 points after a poor first half where nothing went right for the reigning premiers. They trailed by 23 early in the last quarter before they staged a huge comeback to win, 20.15 (135) to 14.8 (92).

Collingwood kicked 11 goals in a row in 23 minutes to turn a most-likely Adelaide win into a trouncing.

Collingwood’s Luke Ball and Andrew Krakouer both kicked three goals in the final quarter. Chris Tarrant also added to the win, with two final quarter goals after being moved up from defence in the second half.

Scott Pendlebury kicked a goal from almost 50 metres out to put the Magpies in front, 18 minutes into the last quarter.
Adelaide had looked in control, powered by a superb performance from midfielder Scott Thompson who had 33 possessions and 14 clearances to be the dominant player for most of the match.

The Magpies suffered as a result of poor kicking in the first half, scoring 2 goals and 10 points. Collingwood was kept goal-less in the second quarter.

However the pies were helped in defence by their captain Nick Maxwell, to stage a remarkable comeback to hold off a resurgent Adelaide squad.
