Donald Trump says he won’t run for US president

Trump 2012US real estate giant and television personality Donald Trump has ended months of speculation after announcing that he will not run for US president in 2012. The arrogant tycoon said he could dethrone Obama however he is not ready to leave the private sector, saying “business is my greatest passion”.

In recent months, Trump had publicly questioned whether President Barack Obama was born in the US. The media attention he gained from this with the addition of his high name recognition boosted him to the top rank of candidates.

In a statement on Monday, Mr Trump said that through his "unofficial" campaigning, he had come to realise that "running for public office cannot be done half heartedly".

The New York business man had been running an “unofficial” campaign for months. Last month, Trump demanded that President Obama release copies of his birth certificate, stimulating rumours among certain minorities that the president was not born in the US.

The president released the documents and Trump was proved wrong, however the business man took credit for forcing Obama to co-operate.

Had he run for president, Trump would have been criticised for his lack of political experience and his high profile life often captured on front covers of New York tabloid newspapers.
