Dallas Mavericks win game 4 of NBA Western Conference Finals, take 3-1 lead in series

Dirk Nowitzki,Dirk Nowitzki scored 40 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 112-105 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder away from home.

Dallas is now just one win away from making it to the NBA Finals. Dallas’s Jason Kidd hit a crucial three-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in overtime to secure the win for Dallas.

The winner of the series will face either Chicago or Miami for the NBA championship.

Dallas trailed by 15 points with five minutes remaining in regulation. However, they made a huge come from behind win to prove to Oklahoma that they never give up hope of winning a game.

The Mavericks didn’t take the lead until Dirk Nowitzki nailed 2 free throws 16 seconds into overtime.

Kevin Durant went for a three-pointer on Oklahoma’s first attack of overtime but missed. Durant didn’t get another possession until he missed another three-point attempt in the final ten seconds when his team was down by 5 points.

Durant finished the game with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Serge Ibaka finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma City. Russell Westbrook added 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in his team’s loss.

The Mavericks struggled to rebound all night were down 91-99 with 3:14 remaining in regulation.

Dallas' defense then stopped Oklahoma City on four straight possessions and the Mavericks closed the gap to 101-99.

Two free throws from Nowitzki levelled the scores with 6.4 seconds remaining and Shawn Marion's block on Durant made sure the Thunder didn't win the game in the dying seconds.

The game was tied 105-105 with 1:15 left in overtime when Jason Kidd stole the ball from Durant and drained a three-pointer at the other end with 40.3 seconds to go.

Kidd then rebounded a Westbrook miss, Jason Terry hit two free throws for Dallas and Kidd added two more free throws to let Dallas celebrate a victory that looked out of reach when the Thunder opened the game by hitting nine straight shots.

The Mavericks will host game five on Wednesday.
